Union Jack

The union jack is the British flag and is a great sign of patriotism for the country. It is interesting that you see it around a lot in the main tourist cities such as London. It is used by the people of the UK when they want to show their support for the country in sporting events and things like that and are also waved at royalty to show support of the country and the hard work that they do as ambassadors for it. But it has recently become a far more trendy item.

It seems like people are now buying things like bunting, cushions, mugs and other decorative items for their homes. The colours tend to be slightly more muted, maybe pastel blue shades or even pink or greens. I think that this is because the very primary blue and red are very bright and maybe do not fit in quite with most peoples decor. I think that they also make them look a little different to the original flag which somehow gives them an edge and makes them look more trendy. I rather like them and think it is good in a way that people are supporting their country. I also think it is great for tourists to have these different coloured flag option to buy. If you are heading in your hire car from Gatwick to the centre of London then look out for them and bag yourself a bit of trendy decor for your house too.

Flooding

You may be rather alarmed to hear all of the weather warnings in the UK at the moment. If you are flying in to Gatwick you may be tempted to just cancel you flights, car hire and hotels and stay at home but do not despair. The media are giving these warnings to make sure everyone is prepared but the weather problems are very localised. The flooding that they have been warning about is only because they think that drains may be blocked due to salt and grit which was left on the ground after the snowy weather. It is likely that any blocked drains should be unblocked pretty quickly and the floods will not be anything like the ones experienced in the UK a few years ago, at least not at the moment anyway.

Be prepared for some cold weather and wet weather, this is the UK! But there is still plenty to do even if it is too cold and wet to be outside and if you have a car then should easily be able to get from place to place without having to go outside in any of that weather. Make sure you take a look at all of the attractions available before you arrive as it can be very daunting trying to choose which one you want to go and see. Make a list and even print some maps out and then you will be very well prepared for your trip and will be able enjoy England, well at least the indoor bits!
